Shards Of History: locally found and handcrafted sun hangings made from found pieces of glass dating back to the 1800's until today, collected in San Francisco.

I began collecting the glass I found with the intention of making these “Sun Hangings” during my retirement. In college I made stained glass, and I use that terminology now so people can understand the look of my art.

In the late 1990's, I found a good mass, probably from a stained glass shop that discarded the scraps in a big pile. I found many other things like toy cannons, and doll parts. I also came across coins (an 1854 quarter and 1906 $5.00 gold piece but alas the quarter was concave from being in the heel of a shoe and the gold piece had a nick). I also found frozen Charlottes (miniature 5” people) and wads of newspaper still readable after over 100 years. I found many broken bottles with the company name on them, from the mid 1800’s on. I made my first Shards of History piece around 2005 but I took a break and started again in 2014, when I retired from work.  I enjoy making the final results and I hope you will enjoy each one of a kind piece as well.
